Gerolsteiner Gourmet Edition: Double glass set to enhance the pleasure of drinking mineral water

Innovative concept developed by Gerolsteiner and Schott Zwiesel sets standards in form and function

Gerolstein, November 8, 2010 - Burgundy, Riesling, Bordeaux or rosé: There's a special glass for every type of wine. But what should the perfect glass for mineral water look like? Gerolsteiner, the German market leader among high-quality mineral waters, took on the challenge to answer this question during a marketing campaign. The goal: to develop a mineral water glass that optimally enhances the taste through its form, thus perfecting the drinking pleasure. The partners involved in this campaign that is one-of-a-kind in Germany are the glass factory Schott Zwiesel and Thomas Sommer, head sommelier of the gourmet restaurant Lerbach. The result is the "Gerolsteiner Gourmet Edition" - a set of two mouth-blown glasses, one specially designed for still mineral water and the other for sparkling water.

As the project partners discovered, still mineral water tastes smoother and softer when it flows into the mouth from a wide-brimmed glass. Carbonated mineral water is better when it hits the middle of the tongue first, which is achieved through a narrower opening. With this form, slightly tapered at the top, the carbonation lasts longer in the glass. The development team also placed high value on setting standards in appearance. The Gerolsteiner Gourmet glasses compliment one another reciprocally in their form - like brother and sister in design and function, or a new interpretation of the yin & yang principle. The clear, purist design is unmistakable and harmonizes nevertheless with all common types of wine glasses on a set table. In other aspects, great importance was placed on functionality as well: Despite their elegance, the glasses are shatterproof, easy to rinse and polish, and are space-saving when stored.

The glasses can be ordered starting in January 2011 through our online shop on the Gerolsteiner website, www.gerolsteiner.de. The 2-glass set costs EUR 49.80.

About Gerolsteiner mineral water:
Gerolsteiner is characterized by its high, well-balanced mineralization and excellent, smooth taste. It originates from the Volcanic Eifel, a region with globally unique soil properties. Water from this region is extraordinarily well-balanced due to the carbonic acid of volcanic origin and dolomite rock that is especially rich in calcium and magnesium.
