Who Actually Found the Water?
In the 1880s, the geologist Wilhelm Castendyck set out to find natural carbonation and discovered the first Gerolsteiner mineral water spring. He took a sample of the water to Prof. Dr. Carl Remigius Fresenius, the most renowned chemist of his time and founder of the Fresenius Institute. Analysis of the sample revealed that the water was full of natural carbon dioxide and rich in valuable minerals. The Gerolsteiner brand was founded on this basis on 1 January 1888.

Come explore our interactive exhibit to learn how the story of Gerolsteiner mineral water unfolded, what makes our mineral water so special, and how ordinary precipitation turns into precious mineral water.
