Trade name

According § 4 of the food labeling regulations (LMKV) the trade name of a food needs to adhere to the name specified in the statutory provisions.

Trade names can be:

  • a term established by law
  • A term that is customarily used in the trade
  • The description of a foodstuff and, if required, its use, which enables the consumer to determine the type of food and to tell the difference between it and similar products

In the case of mineral water it is the name of the respective water: Natural mineral water, natural health water, spring water or table water. The label can also specify the source of the carbonic acid and the level of content.
