10 rules for a healthy diet

Based on current scientific findings, nutrition authorities and organizations recommend the following best practices for healthful eating:

1. Enjoy a wide range of foods

2. Dietary roughage is important

3. Fruit and vegetables

4. Dairy and Eggs - Meats and Fish

5. Less fat and high-fat foodstuffs

6. Sugar and salt in moderation

7. Plenty of fluids

8. Careful preparation

9. Enjoy the experience

10. Pay attention to exercise

Choose your calories wisely!

The general formula for successful weight loss is simple: burn more calories than you consume. There are two options: increase your physical activity (exercise!) or decease your calorie intake (diet!). However, all calories do not provide the same nutritional value, some have more staying power than others. Scientists from Sydney University studied the satiation levels of popular foods. Every morning, they allowed their subjects to eat 240 calories of a particular food and asked them repeatedly during the proceeding hours time how full they felt. A test group had white bread. Results indicate that the foods that satiated the best include potatoes, fish, oats, oranges, apples, and whole-grain pasta. Croissants and donuts, for example, performed badly.

Valuable Minerals

Gerolsteiner Sparkling bottle with a bar chart of Calcium and Magnesium content

Calcium is quantitatively the most important mineral in the human body: 99 percent of calcium (approx. 1kg) is stored in the skeleton. For the most part, magnesium can be found in your skeleton as well and it is also present in your muscles and between your cells.
All of that makes calcium and magnesium important minerals which our bodies are not able to produce on its own and therefore need to be obtained from our food and beverages.

High-calcium foods include, dairy products, green vegetables, such as broccoli and spinach, and some fruits like figs and dates whereas nuts, poultry, whole grains, fish or potatoes are important sources of magnesium.
Gerolsteiner with its well-balanced and high mineral content provides the body with calcium and magnesium. Just one litre of Gerolsteiner Sparkling and Medium satisfies one third of the daily calcium requirement and one quarter of the daily magnesium requirement.
