For Gerolsteiner Japan is one of the most important international business markets. In terms of international business it developed to a supporting pillar. As the Number One of all imported carbonated mineral waters Gerolsteiner can be called "the worlds number one natural sparkling mineral water".
There are 6.000 supermarkets in the greater area of Tokyo. 40% currently sell Gerolsteiner Sprudel in 0,5l and 1,0l PET bottles.
In order to learn more about Gerolsteiner's origin as well as grasping facts and figures about the product, our importer Sapporo invited several retailers (Gerolsteiner clients) to Gerolstein.
Gerolsteiner's CEO, Mr. Axel Dahm, presented background information about the company. The vistors were impressed by the filling lines and the loading streets. During the store checks in regional supermarkets the Japanese business people payed attention in particular to the presentation of beverages.
The interplay between mineral water and wine was experienced during a visit of the winery Heymann-Loewenstein at the river Moselle who is member of top classified German vineyards and one of Gerolsteiner's partners. A visit of the beer festival in Munich made the event perfect.
"For Gerolsteiner the international business is of big significance" says Axel Dahm. "In 2009 an increase in turnover of 25% was realized in Japan. This is due to our partner Sapporo as well as to japanese retailers who set value on high quality of their assortment just like us."
According to Sapporo the visit was very successful and informative. Another visit of wholesalers in Gerolstein has already been announced for the next year.
