Gerolsteiner: Close ties with Japan

Gerolstein/Cologne, October 8, 2011. Gerolsteiner has been active on the Japanese market since 2006. Now listed nationwide, the leading German mineral water brand has a market segment of 70 percent in the relevant competition environment of supplied supermarket and convenience store channels. By July 2011, a double-figure growth in sales was achieved on the Japanese market. In the current year, TV ads, sampling and POS activities are aimed at making the Gerolsteiner brand even more well-known to the Japanese public.

"We maintain a close relationship with our Japanese import partner Sapporo, the fourth largest brewery in Japan," stated Axel Dahm, CEO of Gerolsteiner Brunnen GmbH & Co. KG. "Since we feel close ties with Japan in many ways, we were deeply moved by the disaster in parts of the country. The people there are working tirelessly to reconstruct their country. Our local partners have expressed optimism at the advances achieved so far. That gives us hope." Only a few days after the disaster, the mineral water producer called for donations to directly support the German Red Cross. Employees and partners collected donations that were presented to the German Red Cross in the form of a - 15,000 cheque in May.

Gerolsteiner sparkling mineral water is available in Japan in 0.5 litre and 1.0 litre PET bottles. The 0.45 litre PET bottle introduced in 2010 for the country's widespread and popular vending machines has also established itself well. This new sales channel is a major contribution to the growth of Gerolsteiner on the Japanese market.
