Gerolsteiner contains more minerals than most other waters in Germany due to its unique origin in the Volcanic Eifel: Approximately 2,500 mg per liter. The balance and combination of carbonic acid and mineralization is crucial to the effect and flavor of a mineral water.

The level of mineralization

One of the reasons for the quality of Gerolsteiner is the naturally high level of mineralization of approximately 2,500 mg per liter. On the one hand the minerals neutralize the acidity of the carbonic acid, thus giving the mineral water its well rounded flavor. On the other hand these minerals provide the human organism with important elements that the human body is partially not capable of providing itself.

The types of minerals

Besides the level of mineralization it is the types of minerals contained in the water that are of importance.  Every mineral has a specific effect on our health: Calcium for instance is beneficial to the growth and strength of bones and teeth. Magnesium benefits the nerves and stimulates the heart and circulation. Hydrogen carbonate influences the acid-base balance and protects against hyperacidity and heartburn.

Containing 348 mg of calcium and 108 mg of magnesium a liter of Gerolsteiner provides a third of the recommended daily amount of both minerals.

A balance of minerals

It is Gerolsteiner's natural balance which makes it so special. But what exactly does that mean?

A water is well-balanced when it contains the best substances in an ideal proportion. For instance: A high sodium content combined with too much chloride can make the water taste salty. Mineral water with a high sulfate content often tastes bitter. Gerolsteiner on the other hand contains a lot of calcium and magnesium and a comparatively small amount of sodium, chloride or sulfate – it is thus naturally ideally mineralized. This perfect balance, combined with the invigorating carbonic acid, makes for such a pleasantly neutral and refreshing flavor.
